The WaterMark Tensiometer is a standard in accurate soil moisture measurement, offering growers an inexpensive and reliable means of measuring soil moisture for irrigation scheduling. An WaterMark sensor will measure the actual soil water tension, which indicates the effort required by root systems to extract water from the soil. Because the WaterMark sensor is a true measurement of soil water potential, the instrument is not affected by salinity and does not require site calibration.
The patented WATERMARK sensor is an electrical sensor buried in the active root zone to measure soil moisture tension. The sensor consists of corrosion-resistant electrodes embedded in a specialized granular matrix. Water in the soil exchanges with the sensor matrix, providing a measurement of soil moisture tension (in centibars or kPa) equivalent to the readings of an Irrometer SR or LT tensiometer. The WATERMARK sensor is designed as a permanent sensor that remains in the soil and can be read by recording devices such as FieldGuard Stations or handheld readers.
