This FieldGuard Soil Moisture Measurement Station features 2 analog and 2 digital ports. Both of the analog ports in this case are occupied by the 2 WaterScout SMEC300 soil moisture sensors, which measure not only soil moisture percentage but also soil EC and soil temperature. In practice, this station is used to assess the extent to which nutrients penetrate deeper sections of the soil profile or to monitor the potential leaching of nutrients into deeper layers or surface water. Depending on the crop, the sensors are installed at a depth midway into the root zone (10 - 30cm) and at the root horizon level (30 - 60cm deep). Additionally, 2 digital sensors (I²C) can be optionally added to this station. This could be, for example, a digital temperature / RH sensor for measuring air temperature and humidity. As a result, the station can also be used for early-season frost alerts or disease modeling, where both the air temperature and humidity are measured within the canopy and just outside the canopy.
